A Living Tribute to Courage and Sacrifice
Punjab has always been known as the land of brave soldiers and martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation. Their stories of sacrifice, courage, and honour are preserved at the Punjab State War Heroes’ Memorial & Museum, located on the Amritsar Attari Road. Established in 2016, the memorial stands as a heartfelt tribute to the brave sons of Punjab who gave everything to protect the country. Today, it has become a major attraction where visitors gather every day to pay their respects to the martyrs.
The Giant Sword and MiG 23 Fighter Aircraft

As visitors enter the memorial, the first thing that captures their attention is the massive 45 metre high steel sword. Rising towards the sky, it symbolizes the unmatched courage, determination, and bravery of India’s armed forces. At the entrance, a MiG 23 fighter aircraft proudly stands on display, representing the strength and legacy of the Indian Air Force. Together, these two landmarks inspire patriotism and fill every visitor with pride.
Historic Galleries Showcasing India’s Military Legacy

The memorial houses several galleries that present the military history of Punjab and India in a chronological manner. These galleries cover the early Sikh period, the Anglo Sikh Wars, and several modern military conflicts. Some of the major battles highlighted inside the museum include:
- Battle of Saragarhi (1897): Where 21 Sikh soldiers fought heroically against thousands of Afghan tribesmen.
- Jammu and Kashmir Conflict (1947 to 1948): Depicting the defence of India’s borders soon after Independence.
- Indo Pakistan Wars (1965 and 1971): Showcasing the extraordinary courage and achievements of the Indian Armed Forces.
- Kargil War (1999): Telling the inspiring story of India’s victory on the icy mountain peaks.
- Operation Pawan (1987 to 1990): Paying special tribute to the 109 brave soldiers from Punjab who lost their lives during the operation.
Ancient Weapons Collection and 7D Theatre Experience

One of the most impressive sections of the memorial features a collection of more than 300 historic weapons, including swords, spears, shields, guns, and rifles. These artefacts represent nearly 400 years of military history. The gallery also displays the flags of various regiments of the Indian Army, reflecting the proud traditions of the country’s armed forces.
To make the experience even more engaging, the memorial includes a modern 7D Theatre. The theatre allows visitors to experience realistic battlefield scenes that create a powerful and emotional connection with the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers. The memorial also houses a valuable collection of rare photographs related to Sikh history.
