Jaimalwala’s Daughter Sukhmanpreet Kaur Wins Silver Medal at Karate Championship 2026

Another talented daughter from Jaimalwala, the ancestral village of renowned Indian cricketer Shubman Gill, has brought glory to Punjab and India on the international stage. Sukhmanpreet Kaur won a silver medal at the International Karate Championship 2026 held in Kathmandu, Nepal, adding a new chapter to the village’s sporting legacy.

Upon her return to Jaimalwala, she received a grand welcome from villagers and family members, who celebrated her achievement with traditional dhol beats, flower garlands, and heartfelt congratulations.

Passion for Sports and a New Goal: Gold Medal

Speaking about her achievement, Sukhmanpreet said that she has been passionate about sports since childhood. Inspired by athletes who have brought recognition to their hometowns, she always dreamed of representing her village, district, and Punjab at the international level.

She travelled to Nepal on June 1 to participate in the championship, where competitions were held on June 3 and 4. Competing against strong international opponents, she delivered an impressive performance and secured the silver medal.

Reflecting on the competition, she admitted that the level of competition was extremely challenging, which prevented her from reaching the top spot. Nevertheless, she expressed immense satisfaction with her achievement and said that seeing her family proud of her success was the greatest reward.

Sukhmanpreet added that she will continue training with even greater dedication and hopes to return from future competitions with a gold medal.

A Journey of Determination and Family Support

Her father, Gurtek Singh, expressed deep pride in his daughter’s accomplishment. He said that coming from a modest family background, Sukhmanpreet’s success has brought honour not only to the family but also to the entire region.

According to him, as soon as news of the medal arrived, celebrations began among relatives, neighbours, and well-wishers. Everyone eagerly awaited her return home so they could personally congratulate her.

He also expressed confidence that with continued hard work and determination, his daughter would achieve even greater success and eventually win gold at future international events.

Sukhmanpreet’s achievement has inspired people throughout the region. Villagers noted that despite progress in recent years, girls often face significant challenges in pursuing sports careers.
