To protect the nation’s youth from drug abuse and build a self-reliant society, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ at the national level on 2 August 2026. Addressing a massive nationwide video conference, the Prime Minister interacted with more than one crore young people connected from over 28,000 locations across the country.
Punjab also witnessed tremendous enthusiasm for the campaign, with special events organised across various districts of the state. The initiative is not confined to individual health alone; it represents a larger commitment towards securing the future of families, society, and the nation.

The idea, which began last year on the sacred land of Kashi as a pilot initiative under the Kashi Declaration, has now evolved into a nationwide movement with the support of more than 125 spiritual organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). It has now established its presence across every corner of the country.
A 100-Week Roadmap and Key Personalities
To ensure that the campaign remains continuous and effective, a 100-week roadmap has been prepared.
Under this plan, every Sunday will feature special activities related to sports, arts, culture, and meditation. These 100 Sundays are envisioned as 100 determined steps towards a drug-free India.
To make the movement even more impactful, renowned rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh joined the BJP’s anti-drug awareness campaign in Punjab in May 2026, encouraging young people to choose the right path.
The Campaign Resonates Across Punjab
Keeping pace with this national initiative, awareness programmes were organised across several districts of Punjab, including Mohali, Jalandhar, Sangrur (Longowal), Sri Fatehgarh Sahib (Mandi Gobindgarh), and Gurdaspur.
Thousands of students, professors, My Bharat volunteers, NSS workers, and members of youth clubs from leading universities and educational institutions participated enthusiastically.
Students and staff across the state joined the central address online and collectively pledged to fight against drug abuse.
Street Plays, Awareness Programmes, and Pledge Ceremonies
Educational campuses across Punjab presented emotionally powerful street plays highlighting the harmful consequences of drug abuse, leaving a lasting impression on young audiences.
During these programmes, thousands of students and teachers formally pledged to stay away from drugs and work towards making society free from this menace.
Educationists and intellectuals across Punjab praised the Central Government’s initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to transforming university campuses into drug-free zones.
The Energy of the ‘Amrit Peedhi’ and the Vision of Development
Referring to India’s youth as the country’s “Amrit Peedhi” (Generation Amrit), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that their talent, imagination, and energy are taking the country to new heights in areas such as startups, Artificial Intelligence (AI), sports, and space exploration.
However, he warned that drug addiction destroys concentration and can shatter even the biggest dreams.
When a young person falls into addiction, it not only breaks the hopes of parents but also weakens the collective strength of society and the nation.

Indian culture and great spiritual leaders have always spoken against intoxicants.
Referring to the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that intoxicants destroy both human intellect and the soul.

Rehabilitation and Social Support
Even if a young person unknowingly falls into addiction, all doors are not closed.
Today, complete recovery is possible through yoga, meditation, modern rehabilitation centres, and proper medical treatment.
Prime Minister Modi also stressed that young people who successfully overcome addiction are not weak; they are true warriors, whose courage becomes their greatest identity.

Professors and educationists in colleges and universities have been specially urged to make discussions on the dangers of drug abuse a regular part of academic life.
The government, he said, stands firmly with young people in this fight.
Strict action against traffickers and drug dealers—including seizures worth crores of rupees and large-scale arrests—demonstrates the administration’s commitment to uprooting the drug trade.
