Reviewing patients in hospital wards early in the morning, standing for hours in the operation theatre performing surgeries, and dealing with sudden emergency cases – this is all part of the everyday life of 29-year-old Dr Shivanshi. But alongside these demanding responsibilities, she kept another dream alive. That dream has now taken her to the Top 10 of the prestigious Mrs India competition.
Dr Shivanshi, who is serving as a Senior Resident in the Department of General Surgery at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, has proved that if determination is strong enough, it is possible to strike a balance between professional responsibilities and personal aspirations.

Originally from Purnia in Bihar, Dr Shivanshi’s academic and professional journey has taken her across several states and even countries. She completed her MBBS from Dharan, Nepal, and later earned her MS in General Surgery from Government Medical College, Amritsar. After completing her education, she established herself as a dedicated surgeon and is today serving at one of Punjab’s busiest government hospitals.
The life of a surgeon is anything but ordinary. Working hours are often unpredictable. The critical condition of patients, long surgeries and emergency situations mean doctors frequently have to compromise on their personal time. In such an environment, preparing for a national-level pageant is no easy task.

Yet Dr Shivanshi never abandoned her dreams or personal interests. She had always been interested in personality development, fitness and public speaking. While these passions may have taken a backseat during medical studies and career-building, they never disappeared. So when the opportunity to participate in Mrs India came her way, she embraced it as a fresh challenge.
Even reaching this competition was not easy. Finding time for fitness training, grooming sessions, communication skills, ramp walk practice and preparation for various stages of the pageant was a major challenge. There were many days when her hospital duty stretched late into the night, but despite that, she continued her preparation with consistency.

The medical profession is not only physically demanding, but also mentally exhausting. Long duties, emergency cases, patients’ concerns and personal responsibilities naturally bring fatigue and pressure. Dr Shivanshi’s journey was no exception. But she turned every difficult moment into motivation and kept moving forward.
She says there were many days when exhaustion made everything feel extremely difficult, but she kept reminding herself that dreams are not meant only to be seen—they are meant to be worked for.

On 6 February this year, she got married in Amritsar. After marriage, while new family responsibilities came into her life, hospital duties and Mrs India preparations also continued. But she did not allow these responsibilities to become obstacles.
The result of her hard work came when she was selected among the Top 10 finalists of Mrs India. This achievement has become a matter of pride not just for her, but for both Punjab and Bihar. She has been receiving constant congratulations from colleagues at the hospital, friends and family members.
According to Dr Shivanshi, Mrs India is not merely a beauty pageant. In her view, it is a platform that highlights women’s confidence, talent, leadership and social awareness. She wants her story to inspire women who often put their dreams aside while juggling family and career responsibilities.

Now, she is fully focused on preparing for the grand finale of Mrs India, to be held in Jaipur on 12 July. Her hospital duties continue just as before, but alongside them, the preparation for the competition is also going on with full dedication.
Whatever the final result may be, Dr Shivanshi’s journey has already delivered a powerful message—that a person can live multiple dreams at the same time, and with hard work, discipline and belief, those dreams can be turned into reality.
Today, this young surgeon representing Punjab has become an inspiration for thousands of women who want to give wings to their dreams while also fulfilling their responsibilities.
