Punjab has once again found a reason to be proud as Gursleen Kaur, a talented young woman from the Kandi region of Talwara, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming a commissioned officer in the Indian Air Force. Her achievement is not just a personal victory but an inspiration for countless young aspirants across the country.
In one of the most competitive selection processes in India, Gursleen secured All India Rank 35, outperforming lakhs of candidates who dream of wearing the uniform and serving the nation. With nearly six to seven lakh candidates appearing for the examination nationwide, only a select few managed to make the final list.
Her accomplishment becomes even more significant for Punjab, as only two women candidates from the state were selected, and Gursleen secured the second-highest rank among them.
A Humble Beginning with Big Dreams

Gursleen Kaur’s journey began in Talwara, a quiet town known more for its hardworking people than for producing national-level achievers. She completed her schooling at BBMB DAV Public School, Talwara, where she was known for her dedication and academic excellence from an early age.
After completing her Class 12 education in the non-medical stream, she enrolled at Punjab University, Chandigarh, where she pursued a B.Sc. (Honours) in Physics. Her passion for learning led her to complete an M.Sc. in Physics, and later she earned an M.A. in English in 2025, strengthening both her scientific and communication skills.
Years of Hard Work Behind the Success
The road to the Indian Air Force was neither short nor easy. Gursleen’s success is the result of years of perseverance, discipline and determination.
She appeared multiple times before the Services Selection Board (SSB) and the Air Force Selection Board, reaching the recommendation stage on several occasions. Rather than being discouraged by setbacks, she returned stronger every time. Being recommended three times itself reflects her consistency and capability.
The written examination held in August 2025 proved to be the turning point in her journey. When the final results were declared in June 2026, her name proudly featured among the successful candidates.
Tough Competition, Limited Opportunities
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the limited number of seats available for women candidates. With only around 24 vacancies in the category, the competition was exceptionally intense.
Despite these odds, Gursleen secured her place through merit, determination and relentless preparation, proving that hard work can overcome even the toughest barriers.
Strong Family Support
Behind every success story is a strong support system, and Gursleen’s family played a crucial role in her journey.
Her father, Dharminder Singh Brarich, serves as an SDO with the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), while her mother, Jaspal Kaur, is a lecturer at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Talwara.
According to family members, Gursleen has always been calm, focused and highly disciplined. She remained committed to her goal and never allowed failures to distract her from her dream.
From Talwara to the Skies
Today, as Gursleen Kaur prepares to serve the nation in the Indian Air Force uniform, celebrations are taking place across Talwara. Teachers, community leaders and well-wishers have been visiting her family to congratulate them on this extraordinary achievement.
Her success is much more than securing a prestigious position. It sends a powerful message that young women from small towns and rural regions can compete at the highest levels and achieve national recognition.
Gursleen Kaur’s journey is a reminder that dreams are not limited by geography. With dedication, education and perseverance, even the sky is not the limit. Her achievement will continue to inspire thousands of young people who aspire to serve the nation and pursue excellence in their chosen fields.
